Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway Deploys New Dispatch Console System
December 5th, 2012Brewster, Ohio-based Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway, a Class 2 regional railroad, has deployed technology company Avtec’s Scout radio dispatch console to control train movements on its 840-mile system in Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Maryland.
The Scout Voice over Internet Protocol system, which replaces the railway’s former Time-Division Multiplexing system, supports radio communications at 20 dispatch sites, Avtec said. The new system supports compliance with the Federal Communication Commission’s narrowbanding requirements, which go into effect on Jan. 1, 2013.
