Canadian National to Build Intermodal Ramp for Chicago Area

January 18th, 2013

Class I railroad Canadian National Railway plans to construct an intermodal ramp at its freight yard in Joliet, Ill.

“The Joliet-Will County area of greater Chicago has one of the highest concentrations of distribution centers in the United States,” said Jean-Jacques Ruest, CN’s executive vice president and chief marketing officer, in a written statement.

The new ramp will offer importers and exporters improved access to this hub, including service to and from Asia via the ports of Vancouver and Prince Rupert, British Columbia, Ruest said.

He also added that CN expects to offer daily West Coast service starting in June 2013, with transit times of about 100 hours between the West Coast and Joliet.
